Hannover Medical School (MHH) is one of Germany's leading university medical centers. Its Department of Psychiatry, Social Psychiatry and Psychotherapy runs a specialist inpatient ward for depression, established in October 2021. MHH's own press page states that when usual antidepressant measures are insufficient or depression is particularly severe, the ward also offers neuromodulatory procedures such as electroconvulsive therapy or intranasal esketamine therapy, described as medication applied via nasal spray. Care is multidisciplinary, combining diagnostics, psychotherapy and guideline-based pharmacotherapy.
