Magnolia Therapy in Vreeland is a non-contracted specialist GGZ provider offering a roughly six-month esketamine nasal spray (Spravato) programme for adults (18+) with treatment-resistant depression: insufficient response to at least two antidepressants in adequate dose and duration plus at least one augmentation strategy, with a concurrent oral antidepressant during treatment. A multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists and nurses delivers the programme. Typically there are two esketamine sessions per week in the first four weeks, tapering to weekly or fortnightly, with monthly psychiatrist consults in the start phase and optional additional psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, psychodynamic therapy, IPT) where indicated. A referral from a treating physician and prior insurer authorisation are required before the programme can start; Magnolia states treatment can start without waiting lists.

Häufige Fragen

Details auf Englisch.

Do I need a referral or authorisation?

Yes. A referral to specialist GGZ from a treating physician or therapist is required. For the esketamine nasal spray programme, prior authorisation from your health insurer is also required before the programme can start; Magnolia guides you through this process.

Who qualifies for the esketamine programme?

Adults (18+) diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression: insufficient response to at least two different antidepressants in adequate dose and duration, plus at least one augmentation strategy without sufficient effect. During the esketamine treatment you use an oral antidepressant as prescribed by your treating physician.

What does a session look like?

Administration takes place in a specially designed, quiet treatment setting. You wear an eye mask and listen to selected music; there is continuous guidance and monitoring, and observation after the session before you go home. No medication is given to take home.

How often and how long is the treatment?

In most cases two esketamine treatments per week during the first four weeks, then tapering to once a week or once every two weeks depending on clinical response. The esketamine programme is a six-month course; the standard protocol is around 20 treatments, adjusted to your personal situation.

Alternativen im Blick? Esketamine nasal spray treatment is also offered as contracted, publicly reimbursed care at specialised centres across the Netherlands affiliated with the national Esketamine Nasal Spray Consortium (ENC-NL), which lists Magnolia among its affiliated institutions.
