In Norway, publicly funded ketamine treatment for treatment-resistant depression became available after Beslutningsforum for nye metoder unanimously approved racemic (IV) ketamine for the specialist health service on 25 August 2025, while esketamine nasal spray (Spravato) was rejected for public funding for the third time since 2020. The entry route is a referral (henvisning) from your fastlege, psychologist, or psychiatrist to the psychiatric specialist service; treatment is delivered only at hospitals and district psychiatric centres (DPS) under specialist supervision, not by GPs or outside the specialist service. So far only a limited number of DPS and hospital sites offer it, no official national list of participating helseforetak has been published, and the roll-out is expanding gradually. Expect public waiting times of roughly four to six months, sometimes longer; private clinics remain the faster (self-paid) alternative.
