GGZ Drenthe is the regional specialist mental health provider for the province of Drenthe, headquartered in Assen, and runs a dedicated esketamine outpatient clinic for adults (18+) with severe depression in whom other treatments, such as several types of medication and psychotherapy, have not helped sufficiently. Each treatment session lasts about two hours; initially patients come twice a week, and the whole trajectory takes about six months. Using an oral antidepressant is a condition for starting, and suitability is first assessed before treatment begins. Registration runs via the patient's own treating clinician. GGZ Drenthe psychiatrists have also published on esketamine outcomes as part of national consortium research.

How do I get referred?

Your own treating clinician can register you at GGZ Drenthe's esketamine clinic; the team first assesses whether esketamine nasal spray is a suitable treatment for you.

What does a session look like?

A session takes about two hours. The spray can cause dizziness, so GGZ Drenthe advises bringing someone with you to the treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

Initially you come twice a week; the total treatment lasts about six months.
