Clienia Privatklinik Schlössli in Oetwil am See (canton Zurich), founded in 1889, is one of the largest psychiatric clinics in Switzerland and part of the Clienia group. It provides acute inpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy for adults, older adults and young people, combining basic-care wards with supra-regional specialised units, and its admission and emergency service is staffed around the clock. The Clienia group describes a structured (es)ketamine treatment program, including the Spravato nasal spray approved in Switzerland for treatment-resistant depression, supervised by physicians and specially trained nursing staff.

How do I access esketamine (Spravato) treatment here?

Access runs through a psychiatrist. Your treating psychiatrist assesses whether you meet the Swiss criteria for treatment-resistant depression and refers you; before treatment a detailed consultation takes place and your consent is obtained.

Is the treatment covered by health insurance?

Spravato is reimbursed by Swiss mandatory health insurance for treatment-resistant depression within the official criteria; the insurer's cost approval (Kostengutsprache) must be in place before the first dose.

What does a treatment session involve?

The Clienia group describes a preparation phase, self-administration of the nasal spray under a physician's guidance, around 90 minutes of monitoring on site and a concluding consultation - about two and a half hours in total, mostly on an outpatient basis.
