About this provider

The Reseau fribourgeois de sante mentale (RFSM) is the bilingual (French/German) public mental-health network of the canton of Fribourg, with its hospital care centre at L'Hopital 140 in Marsens and further hospital, outpatient and day-clinic sites in Fribourg/Villars-sur-Glane, Bulle and Estavayer-le-Lac. It runs round-the-clock cantonal psychiatric emergencies, adult general psychiatry, an addiction centre and a psychotherapy institute. RFSM engages actively with treatment-resistant depression, having hosted a 2023 professional webinar on the practical use and reimbursement of Spravato (esketamine) in Switzerland; its research centre is led by Prof. Gregor Hasler.

What are the Swiss reimbursement conditions for esketamine?

Basic insurance (OKP) covers esketamine nasal spray only at BAG-designated centres for adults 18-74 with treatment-resistant depression: at least two adequate antidepressant trials plus one augmentation attempt without sufficient response, CGI-S of 5 or higher, prior insurer approval (Kostengutsprache), and a maximum of 10 months of treatment.
