Common questions

How do I register for esketamine treatment at lups?

Registration is made by your treating professional (psychiatrist/psychotherapist) to the central registration and coordination office (ZAK), anmeldung@lups.ch or +41 58 856 53 00. The esketamine teams in Sursee (+41 58 856 46 00) and Kriens (+41 58 856 48 00) can be reached weekdays.

Who is eligible under the criteria lups applies?

Adults 18-74 in outpatient psychiatric care with a current severe episode of unipolar depression, non-response to at least two antidepressants with different mechanisms and to augmentation with lithium or an atypical antipsychotic, and where ECT is not indicated, available, effective or is declined. The insurer's cost approval must be secured before treatment starts.

What does a treatment session look like and who pays?

No food for two hours and no drinks for 30 minutes before dosing; the spray is self-administered under physician supervision, followed by at least two hours of monitoring, and no driving until the next morning. If the conditions are fulfilled, costs are covered by compulsory health insurance; the whole treatment lasts at most 10 months.
