GGZ Noord-Holland-Noord is the regional specialist mental health institution for the north of Noord-Holland (head office Heerhugowaard). Its esketamine nasal spray treatment is delivered by a dedicated esketamine team at the health centre on Landgoed Willibrordus in Heiloo (De Strandwal 32). Patients are registered by their own treating clinician; the esketamine team determines the number of sessions. Typically the first 4 weeks involve 2 sessions per week, then once a week or once every two weeks. Patients spray the medication themselves under a nurse's guidance, blood pressure is monitored, and most can leave after about 90 minutes. The spray is given alongside other prescribed medication and is reimbursed by the health insurer.

How do I get this treatment?

Your own treating clinician registers you for the esketamine nasal spray treatment; the esketamine team then tells you how many sessions you need and when to come to the Heiloo location.

What does a session look like?

You spray the esketamine into your nose yourself under a nurse's guidance; blood pressure is measured during and after administration, and you can usually leave after 90 minutes. You must arrange for someone to collect you and may not drive that day.

How should I prepare?

No alcohol within 24 hours before treatment, no food within 2 hours, no drinking within 30 minutes, and no other nasal spray within 1 hour before the session.

What does it cost?

GGZ NHN states the esketamine nasal spray is reimbursed by your health insurer; because it is a new treatment you only see a code on your insurance invoice.
