About this provider

Pro Persona's TOPGGz-accredited Expertisecentrum Depressie in Nijmegen (Valkenberg building, Nijmeegsebaan 61) treats adults with long-standing depression that has not responded sufficiently to earlier treatment, as well as bipolar disorder. Care is organised into an outpatient clinic for depressive disorder, an outpatient clinic for bipolar disorder, a 12-week day-treatment programme (Monday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00-16:00) and a clinical ward with a programme of roughly three months. The centre is listed by the ENC-NL consortium as an affiliated esketamine nasal spray centre, though its public pages do not detail the esketamine programme. Common questions

How do I get referred?

You cannot sign up yourself; a referrer registers you via Zorgdomein. There can be a waiting list, so check the current wachttijden page. Because of the TOPGGz model, patients from outside the region may need an existing clinician near home so the centre can collaborate on the treatment.

Does the centre offer esketamine nasal spray?

The Expertisecentrum Depressie is listed as an affiliated institution of the national ENC-NL esketamine nasal spray consortium, but the centre's own pages do not publish patient information about the programme. Ask the centre directly on (024) 343 65 10 or via your referrer.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes. Clinicians can contact the Topreferent netwerk Hardnekkige Depressie for consultation, and patients can request a second opinion on diagnosis or treatment. You do not need anyone's permission, including your own clinician's, although the centre advises telling your clinician. Request forms are on the Pro Persona website.

How long do the programmes take?

The outpatient depression treatment aims to complete within 15 to 20 weeks; day treatment runs 12 weeks (three days per week); a clinical admission normally takes about three months, kept as short as possible and as long as necessary.

Looking at alternatives? In the same region, Radboudumc (Nijmegen) publishes a full esketamine nasal spray patient pathway and is also an ENC-NL member; Vincent van Gogh (Venray) covers northern Limburg. See enc-nl.nl and our Netherlands country guide.
