Treatment & access

About this provider

Within Parnassia Groep, the esketamine nasal spray programme runs from the psychopharmacology outpatient clinic of Antes, the group's Rotterdam organisation. Access is referral-only: the referring clinician first checks whether the patient meets the criteria for treatment-resistant depression, then submits the case to the clinic, where the lead practitioner makes the final eligibility assessment. Patients stay with their own treatment team; esketamine is delivered alongside the existing care plan. In the first four to six weeks patients attend twice a week; treatment continues only with clear improvement, then at most once a week, with effect evaluated regularly at the clinic.

Common questions

How do I get access to esketamine treatment at Parnassia Groep (Antes)?

Sign-up is only possible via a referrer. Your own clinician decides whether you may qualify and submits you to the Antes clinic, where the final assessment is made. If approved, you receive detailed information, which is then reviewed together with you before treatment starts. You remain in treatment with your own clinician throughout.

What does the treatment schedule look like?

In the first four to six weeks you come to the outpatient clinic twice a week. Treatment is continued only if there is clear improvement; after that at most one session per week is needed. How long treatment continues is decided together with you and your referrer.

Who is not eligible?

The treatment requires a treatment-resistant depression (insufficient response to at least three treatment trajectories with different antidepressants). Exclusions listed by Antes: pregnancy, (strongly) elevated blood pressure, a bipolar disorder diagnosis, or a heart attack or stroke less than six weeks ago.

Is the treatment reimbursed?

Yes. Esketamine nasal spray is a registered treatment reimbursed by health insurers; nationally it has been part of the basic insurance package since 1 September 2021 for treatment-resistant unipolar depression.
