About this provider

Antes, part of Parnassia Groep, provides specialist mental health care in the Rotterdam region and offers esketamine nasal spray at its psychopharmacology outpatient clinic (psychofarmaca polikliniek) for therapy-resistant depression. Eligibility requires insufficient response to at least three earlier medication trajectories; pregnancy, strongly elevated blood pressure, bipolar disorder or a heart attack or stroke within 6 weeks rule treatment out. Referral is only possible via a professional referrer such as the GP, who submits the patient for a final assessment by the clinic's psychiatrist. Esketamine runs alongside the patient's existing treatment with their own clinician, and the effect is evaluated regularly at the clinic.

  • Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is also offered as a depression treatment
  • Antes participates in the national ENC-NL esketamine consortium

Common questions

How do I get referred?

Only via a referrer (such as your GP or psychiatrist), who first assesses whether you qualify and then submits you to the clinic; an Antes psychiatrist makes the final assessment before treatment starts.

Who qualifies for esketamine at Antes?

People with therapy-resistant depression who have had insufficient response to at least three treatment trajectories with different antidepressants. Pregnancy, strongly elevated blood pressure, a bipolar disorder diagnosis, or a heart attack or stroke less than 6 weeks ago exclude treatment.

What does the treatment schedule look like?

In the first 4 to 6 weeks you come to the outpatient clinic twice a week. Treatment is continued only if there is clear improvement; after that at most one session per week is needed.

Is the treatment reimbursed?

Yes. Antes states that esketamine is a registered treatment and is reimbursed by health insurers.

Looking at alternatives? Esketamine nasal spray is also available at other ENC-NL consortium centers across the Netherlands; private routes outside reimbursed care are rare.
