Common questions
How much does the ketamine-assisted psychotherapy programme cost and what is included?
The KAP programme costs 3,900€ for patients with insurance and 5,500€ for patients without insurance, both divided into four payments. The initial evaluation consultation costs a fixed 120€ and is credited against the first payment if the patient is eligible. The programme runs up to 8 weeks with 18.5 hours of direct care: a 1.5-hour initial medical evaluation with a psychiatrist, 7 hours of psychotherapy (2 preparation sessions, 4 integration sessions and a final session), 4 ketamine administration sessions under medical supervision (up to 10 hours), and follow-ups at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
Is treatment covered by health insurance?
The clinic has agreements with major health insurers, and patients may have access to co-payment for certain acts within the conditions of their policy; the KAP programme itself is priced lower for insured patients (3,900€ vs 5,500€). Patients are advised to contact the clinic or their insurer about covered services, reimbursement rates and the procedures needed to activate coverage.
Do I need a referral or prescription to start?
No medical referral or prescription is required. Anyone can apply for treatment, and each case is then rigorously assessed by the medical team, including a review of the clinical history. Appointments can be booked through the website, by phone (+351 218 071 715 / +351 935 786 510) or by email (geral@theclinicofchange.com).
How does a treatment session work?
Therapy sessions without medication last 60 minutes; ketamine sessions last two hours. Ketamine is given as an intramuscular injection in the deltoid by a doctor or nurse, at sub-anesthetic doses, with continuous monitoring. Patients fast beforehand, can remain at the clinic until they feel ready to leave, must not drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day, and must be accompanied home by a person named before treatment starts.
Who is eligible and what conditions are treated?
Adults with conditions resistant to conventional treatment, including major depression, generalized anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders and addiction (alcohol and other substances, gambling, sex). Eligibility is assessed by a specialist psychiatrist. Contraindications include uncontrolled hypertension, severe cardiovascular disease, active psychosis or schizophrenia, and severe liver problems.
